JNR Kansai Division (Japanese N Scale Layout)
|
Just because I moved to Japan does not mean I gave up on model railroading as a hobby. As a matter of fact, I am actually getting into Japanese model trains. Since N scale is the most popular scale in Japan and because I have very limited space in my studio apartment I decided to build my new layout in N scale.
I found a foldable camping table online that opens up to 80cm by 120cm. I decided to use this as my "bench-work" and then used Kato Unitrack to build a semi permanent layout. Despite the small space, I have figure out how to include a double track mainline, a train station with two tracks, a freight siding, and a roundhouse all while using curves that are no sharper then 249mm radius (except for one small freight siding that uses 216mm). Initially, I started with a D51 starter set and then added track and played around with several track ideas. I finally decided to use SCARM and plotted out my layout on the computer. Then I used the software to figure out how to add a turntable and roundhouse. As I work on building the layout I plan to upload periodic YouTube videos to share my progress and discuss model and prototype trains in Japan. I also plan to post assorted railroad pictures to this website. |
